Three days before Hell in a Cell, yeah you read right another PPV two weeks after Night of Champions, and Randy Orton is still set to face Mark Henry in a Hell in a Cell match for the world Heavyweight Championship. What kind-of fall out will there be on the way there, what new matches will be added, and will this Smackdown suck? I can answer one of those with a yes, but none the less you wanna read about Smackdown, so here's the lowdown.
As we open Smackdown the ever familiar CAN YOU DIG IT, SUCKA hits and Booker T walks to the ring for an interview. Booker welcomes us to Smackdown, and introduces the Worlds Strongest Man and World Heavyweight Champion, Mark Henry. Cole mentions Henry's Hall of Pain and puts over Henry's massiveness and power going into his Hell in a Cell match. Booker congratulates Henry and tells him the can relate to having to climb the ladder to the title. Henry yells at him for kissing his ass and insutling him in the same sentence. He said that he would put Booker through the announce table had he been not out there to talk to Orton. A "Randy" chant erupts from the crowd and Henry tells em all that he's not gonna come out. Henry says that Night of Champions was for the World Heavyweight Championship, and Hell in a Cell will induct Randy Orton into his Hall of Pain. He says at home the has the heads of Lawler, Big Show, and Kane, but Orton's head will go right above the mantle. And that Hell in a Cell he's going to end Randy Orton's career. Booker asks why can't he just focus on being a champ and set and example for the back. Henry said he did all that for 15 years and that it got him nowhere. Henry says it's about domination and he'll be the most dominant ever. Booker tries to ask what would happen if Orton hit an RKO, but Henry explodes by saying if he had done it by now, he wouldn't have the title. Henry then says that Orton, Booker, and all of us "nothing" fans know that Orton can't beat him. And that he wants them to send Khali out so he can take out the trash.
Mark Henry (World Heavyweight Champion) beat The Great Khali via pinfall in a singles match: 2/10 or 1/5 Stars
All this is, is Khali hitting Henry with his three moves and I bet he comes back to win in the end. Wow there was a Khali pinfall in this? Good Lord. End match Henry hits two big splashes but Khali kicks out. Henry waits for Khali to get up, kicks him in the leg and hits The Worlds Strongest Slam for the one, two, three.
After the match Henry finds a steel chair at ringside and brings it into the ring. Henry then hits Khali in the face with it and the puts the chair on Khali's ankle. Henry then goes to the second rope and hits a Vader Bomb onto the chair. The crowd is booing the hell out of him as he inducted The Great Khali into the Hall of Pain.
We come back to Teddy walking with the medics carting off Khali and Gender...err Jinder Mahal has to be restrained for yelling at Khali.
Jack Swagger w/Dolph Zigger (United States Champion) and Vickie Guerrero beat Evan Bourne w/Kofi Kingston [Air Boom] (WWE Tag Team Champions) via submission in a singles match: 4/10 or 2/5 Stars
We get footage of Mason Ryan turning on Ziggler and Swagger in a tag team match on Raw. Allowing Zack Ryder to pin the United States Champion, Dolph Ziggler. End match, Vickie distracts the ref and Ziggler hangman's Bourne. Swagger goes for the gut-wrench power bomb but Bourne tumbles through and hits a knee punch. Kofi attacks Ziggler on the outside as Borune climbs to the top rope. Vickie hits Borunes leg as the ref is distracted and Bourne tumbles to the mat. Swagger slaps on the ankle lock and Bourne taps out. I like this, furthers Vickie being a master manager and gets Swagger a win that hasn't happened in ages. Good job I'd say. Give these two a tag team title shot too. If Vickie can manage the United States and Tag Team champions that would make this really interesting.
We get footage of Sin Cara #2 taking Sin Cara #1's win over Daniel Bryan last week and it's announced that Sin Cara vs Sin Cara will happen this Sunday at Hell in a Cell. One of the Sin Cara's is in a match next.
Sin Cara beat Heath Slater via pinfall in a singles match: 1/10 or 0.5/5 Stars
I like Sin Cara, botch prone or not. I hate Heath Slater....cause he sucks. Bad gimmick, sub-par wrestling, blech. Start match and end match, Sin Cara hits a stiff kick to Slater off the apron and then a swanton bomb for the pinfall.
Afterward the now black getup Sin Cara tells us that this blue getup Sin Cara in the ring stole his name (Mystico) once before. But Sunday, it'll be proven who the real Sin Cara is. Oh yeah there was a lot of Spanish spoken here.
Cole thinks everything is out of control on the COO front. We come back and get a video package on the COO Triple H. They pieced together a bunch of promos of the superstars like Christian and CM Punk voicing thier disapproval of him as COO. And in turn Triple H throwing his weight around and firing Miz and R-Truth.
We cut to the back there Johnny Ace (I refuse to spell his ridiculous real last name out) is with "Bow-Tie" Otunga, Christian, Dolph Ziggler, Vickie Guerreo, and Jack Swagger discussing some sort of legal action that is going to be taken on Monday. Which I can only assume happens on Raw.
Kelly Kelly (Divas Champion) beat Natyala via pinfall in a singles match: 1/10 or 0.5/5 Stars
The match was over in fucking two minutes with Beth on commentary. End match Kelly victory rolls Natyala for the 1-2-3.
As soon as the match end Beth blindsides Kelly and gives her the GlamSlam. Then Nattie puts on the modified surfboard submission she used Monday while Beth taunted her and the crowd hear her scream in pain.
Cody Rhodes (Intercontinental Champion) beat Sheamus via DQ in a singles match for the Intercontinental Championship: 5/10 or 2.5/5 Stars
Cody tells us that last week Orton sang the ding ding ding song as he cracked his head with the ring bell giving him a bunch of staples. He says getting the Battle Royal as punishment for Orton's beating was wrong. And that even though he won he still has to face one of the people he beat. The beer guzzling Irishman, and that he's now competing in this match under protest. Sheamus comes out, tell him the story of Cody getting beat in St. Louis and called him "fella" as he gets in the ring and the match starts. Cody hits The Beautiful Disaster and gets a two on Sheamus as we go to commercial break. End match, Shamus hits the flying shoulder block for a long two. Sheamus get's up and misses The Blarney Boot but hits him with a giant clothesline for another two. Sheamus then puts Cody up for the Celtic Cross and Christian comes in and hits him in the gut. Solid match, both are great workers and I've always liked 'em. Cody needs to get a feud with a big name like him or Christian.
Afterward Christian hits The Killswitch on Sheamus and tell him that he's gonna win at Hall in a Cell this Sunday.
Zack Ryder vs JTG in a singles match: 4/10 or 2/5 Stars
Oh radioooooooooooo tell me everything you know! I love Ryder, he's got charisma and he's solid in-ring. Brooklyn Brooklyn! JTG finally on Smackdown, always liked the guy! JTG has some nice offense, the corkscrew neck breaker and the airborne inverted cutter looked nice. End match, Ryder hits the Broski Boot in the corner for a long two. Zack then get's kicked in the gut setting up JTG. JTG runs off the ropes and takes a Rough Ryder outta nowhere for the win. This was actually a good looking match, this lower mid-card and NXT/Superstars wrestler need more Smackdown and Raw exposure. They have talent that a lot of people aren't seeing.
Johnny Ace is in the back when Triple H walks up to him. Trips doesn't like the fact he's having secret meeting with disgruntled superstars. Ace assures him he's talent relations and needs to confide in him. Triple H then says maybe he just needs to start future endeavoring the people he can't trust.
We get the awesome Hell in a Cell recap package, they always outdo them selves with video packages like that. Then they run down the Hell in a Cell card for Sunday. I'll be posting my picks and thoughts for Hell in a Cell tomorrow sometime.
Striker is in the back with Randy Orton. Orton says that Henry thinks he's going to put him on the shelf. He says that he's done some of the most sadistic things ever in the WWE and even last week he put a plethora of staples in Rhodes head with no remorse whatsoever. He says that Henry has never been in the Cell, but that he's been in three times and that on Sunday it'll be the end of Mark Henry's reign as champion. I don't know how Orton manages to have the same promo, done in the most monotonous way, 300 times in a row.
Randy Orton and Christian were double counted out in a singles match: 6/10 or 3/5 Stars
Even though Christian got the shit end of the stick with his feud with Orton earlier this year, he's put on (and given Orton) some of the best matches of 2011 so far. So with his starting at 40 after the hour, I have high hopes for this match. Orton telegraphs a back body drop, but Christian still hits a spine-buster for a two count on Orton as we go into commercial. End match, Christian misses a flying cross-body then counters and RKO attempt into a back suplex. Christian then calls for the spear, hits it and Orton kicks out at two. Christian then calls for The Killswitch, Orton elbows out, and the hits the second rope DDT on Christian. Orton then begins to beat the mat a Christian high tails it. Orton gives chase and throws Christian, knee first into the steel steps. At this point the ref reaches a 10-count and we get a double count-out.
Orton continues the onslaught on Christian and Cody comes in to save him form an RKO on the announce table. He hits The Beautiful Disaster off the apron. Christian and Rhodes stomp on Orton in the ring and Sheamus runs out to make the save. He gives a Blarney Boot to Rhodes and chases Christian out through the crowd. By this point Henry is heading to the ring. Orton and Christian brawl, and Orton can't hit a RKO and gets Worlds Strongest Slammed. Henry then goes to grab a chair and as he's getting back in the ring Orton RKOs him OUTTA NOWHERE. The show ends with Orton celebrating while the hometown crowd went nuts.
Smackdown Rating: 6/10 or 3/6 Stars
Last week: 4/10 or 2/5 Stars
As expected Orton/Chritian got almost 15 minutes before the double count out and it was another helluva match. If you watch one match so far this week, make it that one. Also the show as a whole was solid. It never felt too boring. Sure you had you blech Diva match, and the meh Khali/Henry and Sin Cara/Slater, but you had a nice showing from JTG/Ryder and then the great Christian/Orton match. Both promos by Orton and Henry were good enough, and all the other promos weren't terrible. The announcing was also pretty tame and did a good job of putting over what was going on. Cole and Booker's back and forths can be pretty good. All in all it was a solid show with a great end leading into Hell in a Cell this Friday.
That's it for The Smackdown Lowdown. As always suggest to me stuff you'd like me to write on. Also if you wanna add me on Facebook or follow me on Twitter, please do so. Really I don't mind.
