Halloween Movie Month 2 [Trick 'r Treat]

My God finally movie that's not a sequel this month. Actually this is movie I've heard good things about over the years. Never got around to it. Found the DVD for $2 and figured I'd give it a shot. With Anna Paquin in it I got a little more excited as well. This movie was interesting to say the least.

This movie is an anthology centered around four stories going on Halloween night in a city in Ohio. We open this movie with Emma and Henry (Leslie Bibb and Tahmoh Penikett) coming home from a Halloween evening. Emma decides to put out the candle inside their pumpkin to Henry's protest. Emma is killed while cleaning up the decorations outside and Henry finds her dismembered body on the lawn. Meanwhile Steven Wilkins (Dylan Baker), the school's principal, is coming home as well to find a fat kid, Charlie (Brett Kelly), taking all the candy on his porch. He hands him a poisoned piece of candy and the rest of this story ensues. In another part of town five kids; Macy (Britt McKillip), Schrader (Jean-Lic Bilodeau), Sara (Isabelle Deluce), Chip (Alberto Ghisi) and Rhonda (Samm Todd) travel to the local rock quarry. Said quarry holds a local legend of a bus full of mentally-ill kids going over the edge and perishing. People are said to take pumpkins down each year to commemorate the occasion. But something is a little off this time as the kids run into something they'd never expect to see. At the local costume shop four girls, two of which are sisters are getting their costumes for the night. Laurie (Anna Paquin) is a 22-year old self conscious virgin, whose sister Danielle (Lauren Lee Smith) is pushing her to "lose it" this evening. Annoyed by it all she stayed behind while the other three go to set up the party. As she walks to the party she is attacked by a mysterious man, but all turns out not to be what it seems. An old man, Kreeg dislikes Halloween and lives alone in a house with his dog Spite. He scares away any trick-or-treaters and genuinely hates the holiday. He is attacked by Sam (Quinn Lord) a little boy who wears orange pajamas and a burlap sack over his head. In the struggle he tears the burlap sack to uncover what may have been hanging over everyone's night in Ohio this Halloween.

If you read all that well good for ya, haha there was a lot of moving parts to this movie. I generally liked most of it. Once I figured out what all was going down. All four of the stories had their own twists and moments in them that were, funny, brutal or bloody. All the stories were solid enough too and three out of four of them had ends I really liked. While, again three out of four of the stories, had great kills in them. The music, humor (when it was used) and even the acting by everyone was good enough as well. Like I said though, I went in now knowing this was a four story movie, and it was really confusing at times when the story just shifted haha. Maybe this is me not doing enough "research", but it shouldn't take me (or someone) half the movie to figure this out. Plus Sam in his costume is absolutely adorable. Just saying.

There's not much left to say. This is one of those movies that a one time watch is alright. I laughed at the first  and second stories far more than I should have, and almost all of them, as I said, have solid twists and kills that left me happy. I liked this movie and I'm glad I gave it a shot. It might not be for everyone, but it's one that was a good enough watch for me.
