Halloween Movie Month [Behind The Mask: The Rise of Leslie Vernon]

I don't think I would've found this one on my own. It's yet another documentary style film, but it also has the classic horror feel to it. Not to mention it has humor and that's always a plus for me. So thanks to Michael Ryne (yet again) for the recommendation. This movie follows the story of Leslie Vernon, who is supposedly dead. He gets in contact with Taylor Gentry and her film crew who will be doing a documentary of him evolving as a horror movie villain and going on a rampage killing people. Now this movie threads the line of merging real-life and movies. Whenever they talk of Michael Myers or Freddy Kruger they talk as if it actually happened. But when Leslie is explaining to us what exactly he's going to do he explains it in a way that would happen in a movie. The dialogue is smart and witty, even at time poking fun at what goes on in horror films. They go through the "rules" and nuances of surviving, planning and even killing in horror films and how it translates to real life. The music is very solid, it's hard to mess up horror music to be honest. The kills are really good. You don't see the blood and gore, but you see death and can imagine the rest. The acting is good, and even the story and plot are pretty original. The humor is well placed and the twist (really the last 25 minutes or so) at the end is quite good. All in all it's a documentary about a classic horror film being made for-real by a psychopath. I liked it, and I'll gladly recommend it to you.
