Halloween Movie Month [Top 5 Movies]

Now there's really not going to be anything groundbreaking in his post, no huge reviews, no opinions of what horror movies are good or bad, etc. This is just me listing out the top five movies I enjoyed watching the most this month. Now these aren't my "Top 5 Horror films of all time" or anything like that. Just from all 31 movies, I'm picking my top five, and re-linking them to you. You may have missed a day, missed the post, or whatever. This going to be my last Halloween Movie Month post as well, so I'm also throwing up links to all my posts from this month at the bottom. Thanks to all of you who read these posts all month too. I appreciate that you'd take time and read my reviews and opinions on movies. I think I'm rambling now. Anywho, here's the top five movies I enjoyed watching this Halloween Movie Month! (Links to the post in the movie title above each poster.)

Song of the Day #4

Well this is Halloween, but this song has been on my mind since last night. It may not be strictly Halloween, but as with most songs, lyrics just resound with me. Not to mention the beat and accompanying music is chill, slow, and eerie. See tied in the creepy-esque beat with Halloween. This is another Kid Cudi song off Man on the Moon: The End of Day, called "Solo Dolo (Nightmare)" I love lines in this song so much, especially the chorus. "Why must it feel so wrong, when I try and do right, do right .. soaring through paradise when I'm closing my eyes, I'm Mr Solo Dolo." I try to be nice and talk and encourage people, and all that jazz, sometimes (actually most of the time), it falls of deaf ears. I hate it cause I'm just trying to help and it feels like doing the kind things is actually wrong. The only time I'm fully at peace with my running, thinking mind is when my eyes are closed, when I'm asleep. It's partly why I do it so much. To just sleep for two hours in the late afternoon, just to get my mind off everything for a bit. But even a bit further, with all my family, friends, Justin/TwitchTV family and friends around I still feel completely alone. Just another Cudi song that I think personifies me. My costume today? Don't really need to wear one. Just getting dressed, my normal clothes. If anyone asks, today I'm Mr. Solo Dolo.

"(Yawn)
Listen good
I don't have nobody
But what I might feel all the sounds of sanity
Hoping what I hear, loops itself continuously
Then I won't be afraid
No No"

Kid Cudi- "Solo Dolo (Nightmare)" from Man on the Moon: The End of Day

Halloween Movie Month [SAW and SAW II]

Happy Halloween!
"I Want To Play A Game" -Jigsaw
Ahhhh SAW. The first in was what to become a seven year long Halloween time tradition for me. This torture-porn series (that ironically has hardly ANY nudity) is my personal favorite horror series ("__" of the Dead and Scream are uber close). And I'm sure most people will agree that at the very least, the first two films are pretty damn great modern horror flicks. But we're only talking about SAW, the original, the one that got the ball rolling. Story of SAW is of Jigsaw, a killer trap maker. But he has a heart. There's always a way to escape the traps with your life, but at a cost to your physical body. SAW (one) tells the story of Adam and Dr. Lawrence Gordon in particular. Two of Jigsaws first victims. They're trapped in a room with mere hours to find a way to escape, if they don't they'll be locked away in that room forever. I love the premise of SAW, always have. At least in the first two movies, the acting is quite good. I like the dialogue between Gordon and Adam in the room especially. Jigsaw is played PERFECTLY by  Tobin Bell. The score set to this movie is epic, the kills are HIGHLY original, bloody, and gory. The twist at the end, not like M. Night Shamalamadingdong endings, if you haven't seen this is amazing. Writing, plot, acting, characters you get invested in and of course the amazingly gruesome and blood kills. I just love this. And yes, it is time to play a game!

--------------------

As I said above, the SAW franchise is my personal favorite horror series. It's intricate story, that winds throughout the movies, is a masterpiece to my mind. Even with the shitty movies in SAW 3/5. Jigsaw is a twisted yet strangely compassionate horror villain that you both want to root for and punch in the face at the same time. SAW II starts after the events of SAW. It follows the story of Detective Eric Matthews, his partner Detective Kerry and SWAT team leader Officer Briggs. They find Jigsaw's hideout and apprehend him. When they find Jigsaw, he tells them there is "something of grave importance" and the officers find computers streaming a feed of a group of people Jigsaw kidnapped and trapped in a house. They all awaken, wondering where they are. Confused and scared, one of them, Amanda (a survivor from SAW), finds a tape that tells them they've been breathing in a nerve agent and have two hours to find antidotes  scattered throughout the house before it's too late. The main focus of this movie, is of course, the traps. It improves upon them in two ways. First, the traps are personal. It's not just let's put you in this and see if you can get out. It's more a you've feared this, been through this, done this in life, now you get to face it again. Two, they're more brutal. Example being, metal venis flytrap mask filled with nails that closes over your face (in the opening scene no less) unless you cut your eye out to find the key. Good God, rough stuff. The score for SAW II, is still amazing and it still does a great job of setting the mood. The deaths are still as gory, bloody (and as I said above brutal) as usual. The acting, took a bit of a nosedive, but I'll be damned if the plot and premise of this movie isn't as good or on par with the first. Usually sequels in general are pretty terrible, but this is one of the few I can say stand up with the first.

Weekly Happenings With FJ! #1

So I stole this idea from EddieRuckus, and with me having a great week in casting, I'll start writing about my week...each week. School, casting and just thoughts. I started going back to school this week as well. I got all my make-up work and my schedule should get going again this week. My teachers are working with me and I should be able to catch up with all my work by mid-November, hopefully. Even though I've fallen behind, I'm happy to finally get going back with school, and I really wanna try to start moving on from my father passing away earlier this month. As I've said before, this is a time of rebuilding in my life and I want everything to just be hunky dory right now. I'm trying to keep positive in everything, and even though I may feel "hopeless" at times, I'm glad I have my family (real life and Justin/Twitch.TV) to be there for me.

I think I've decided to come back to my old casting schedule of Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday nights and whenever else I feel like it. Now, my computer may not be the best, but in my stubbornness I decided to test cast and play The Binding of Isaac and Super Meat Boy this week. During my test cast I actually beat The Binding of Isaac for the first time and even lagtastically beat all of the main story (Forest through The End) of Super Meat Boy. I'd highly recommend these games to anyone as I've racked 105 hours between the two games. (About 85 hours for Meat Boy and about 19 and a half hours for Isaac.) Also last night one of our newest awesome people, KiddXFresh, came into my chat. But she came in drunk. Now, I love and appreciate all my followers and viewers. But if you've EVER been to any of my casts, you know I like to have fun and troll around with almost everyone. Kidd, I'm sorry it had to be you that night. Admittedly, she shouldn't have done it in hindsight, but I think someday, looking back she'll laugh. But there's few quotes from her (below) that had me and BamXMike absolutely rolling during the cast. Making it, I think, one of the best casts I think I've ever done.

Halloween Movie Month [The Silence of the Lambs]

I'll admit this is finally my first time watching this. But I have an excuse....just kidding I don't, but this is a great film, not just horror-wise, thriller-wise and all around. The Silence of the Lambs follows the story of a FBI trainee Clarice Starling. She is assigned to talk with and try and gather information from the infamous psychiatrist (and psychopathic killer) Dr. Hannibal Lecter on information about a killer named "Buffalo Bill" who tortures, kills, and skins women. First off, being a psychology major, the acting and dialogue scenes between Jodie Foster and Anthony Hopkins are amazing. Just a psychopath who is trained in psychology talking with a young upstart psychologist trying to get into the FBI, their back and forths are incredible. The music throughout is amazing and in every scene it just sets the tone. This isn't your typical horror, it's a hybrid with a thriller. So the kills are there. There's blood, there's bodies, but there's no real "BOO" scares. It's more a make you think and freak you out with what Lecter and Buffalo Bill are doing and have done. That being said this is a thriller, and I loved trying to figure out what the killer was doing, what Lecter was up to, and what was going to happen next in the long run. Also, the close up to faces during intense scenes and talking is a nice touch and got me into them even more. You get into the characters and you want them to succeed, fail, get caught, etc, and I love it when you can identify, relate, or root against people. All in all this is just an amazing movie to me. I was never bored, and never had the urge to do anything but be immersed by this awesome flick. As if you can't tell, I highly recommend this. Just a great movie.

Halloween Movie Month [The Exorcist]

This movie. Either you're gonna love the hell out of this film or you're gonna hate it and think it's overrated. Oddly enough, as with a lot of the movies this month, I fall into the middle ground with The Exorcist. Father  Damien Karras is a priest at Georgetown who is working with a mother who's terminally ill. It tests his faith and  he begins to doubt it. Meanwhile a mother and actress, Chris MacNeil, notices weird things happening with her 12 year old daughter Regan. Suddenly, Regan has a seizure and starts going demon all over the place. They try every medical procedure, and finally have to resort to trying an exorcism. This film, I will say is definitely worthy of the nominations. The music throughout this is amazing, and it was a pleasure listening to the sounds throughout. Scary or just normal stuff. Now I'm not a huge fan of these exorcism-type movies, but this is the first and this is the best it's going to get. The acting in this is great as well, especially in my opinion, Jason Miller as Father Karras. There's not much to go into with this movie. The exorcism scenes and the scenes with the demon showing itself and doing stuff are still creepy. Just imagine if your daughter started floating and talking like James Earl Jones. You'd flip out too. But I digress, the music and writing are great, the acting is good as well, and the scares and heebie-jeebies will get ya at times too. Like I said to start, this is really the first movie, I think, that I've done that is really split down the middle between love/hate. So try it, if you like it you're welcome, if not...haha oops.

The Smackdown Lowdown 10/28/11

We're coming off yet another mediocre PPV in Vengeance. Sheamus, again beat Christian in a solid match-up and Randy Orton overtook the Intercontinental Champion Cody Rhodes in another solid match. Finally Mark Henry kept his title after his match with The Big ended with the ring being broken. Are we allowed to remember that? I hope so, it happened a week ago. Hopefully the superstars can somehow perform knowing Maryse has been let go as well. Anywho what will be the fallout for the World Heavyweight Champ and the rest of Smackdown? Well I'm here to tell you, here's the lowdown on Smackdown.

We start off with Teddy Long in the ring and he's addressing what happened at Vengeance. He says that the status of everything involing the title is in limbo and will be addressed tonight. Christian hits the ring and says they're gonna address the issue now. Christian says that Big Show had his shot and blew it and it leaves a hole in the title picture. Christian says he wants the shot, but Teddy comes back with the fact he's losing to Sheamus. Christian is still lobbying to get the title shot when CM Punk's music hits and he heads to the ring. Christian finishes by saying he deserves one more match. Teddy tells us that he's arranged for Raw starts to be on this show tonight for a Super Smackdown. They argue about which GM sucks more, Ace or Long. Punk then says he's a fan of Christian but not what he spews. Christian says that he thinks Punk leaving with the title over the summer was awful. Punk says all of Christian's bitching is wasting all our time and maybe that's why Punk gets title shots. Christian goes on to say that Punk shouldn't disrespect the top person on Smackdown and that he should take is pipe bomb back to Raw. Punk starts to leave but then says the people in Houston want him there and in a match...against Christian. Teddy makes it the main event and we go to commercial.

Did you know? That in fact, Matt Hardy isn't dead yet.

The Awesome Truth (The Miz/R-Truth) beat Air Boom (Kofi Kingston/Evan Bourne) [WWE Tag Team Champions] via pinfall in a tag team match: 4/10 or 2/5 Stars
Before the match we get footage of Miz and Truth taking out Cena on Raw and then Cena saying he'll team with The Rock against them at Survivor Series. End match Kofi hit a double jump crossbody on Miz for a two. Bourne knee strikes Truth out of the ring but misses a plancha over the top. Truth tags himself in and they hit both their finisher at the same time, The Skull Crushing Lil Jimmy, for the pinfall. Solid tag, great end, and great promo from the "thrown" together tag team gone big-time.

The jobber squad, led by Daniel Bryan is in the back, and just saw the HBK v Hart DVD commercial. Bryan say it was a pleasure to train with HBK when he first started in the business. Tyson Kidd comes in and starts an argument on who's better, Bret or Hart. Santino said that this is the locker room and they should "be real mans" and fight it out in the ring.

Cut to Teddy and Little Long Island Iced Z, Hornswoggle. Vickie Guerrero, Jack Sawgger, and Dolph Ziggler (United States Champion) come up laughing about Ryder being taken out on Raw or something like that. Who cares? Teddy decides to put Dolph in a match with Randy Orton and that Swagger is barred from ringside. After they leave Aksana walks up and "seduces" Teddy Long.

We then get a video package of Kevin Nash taking out triple H on Raw with that dastardly sledgehammer before Wade Barrett heads to the ring and we go to commercial.

Wade Barrett beat Trent Baretta via pinfall in a singles match: 2/10 or 1/5 Stars
Before the match Barrett says his Barrett barrage is in full swing. Barrett and Baretta, will the extra vowel mean anything in the end? End match Barrett counters a move and muscles Baretta up into The Wasteland for the one, two, three. Guess that vowel didn't help. I like Barrett and i'm glad they're showing him off and letting him win matches. Push incoming? I hope so.

Randy Orton beat Dolph Ziggler (United States Champion) w/Vickie Guerrero via pinfall in a singles match: 6/10 or 3/5 Stars
Cody Rhodes your Intercontinental Champion, unexpectedly, comes out to do commentary. I like this matching going into the commercial break too. Technical and neither are over powering each other yet, just a good back and forth. End match Orton hits the second rope DDT after a flurry off offence. Orton goes for the RKO but gets a superkick from Ziggler instead for a long time two. Ziggler regroups and goes for the Zig Zag but Orton hangs onto the ropes. Ziggler charges Orton and takes an RKO for his troubles. 1-2-3, match is over. Great match, ok finish. I love Ziggler and Orton can still put on good matches.

Afterward Rhodes is pissed and taunted Orton with a paper bag as he backs up the ramp with his baggers.

We get footage of Sin Cara Negro losing the mask vs mask match to Sin Cara Azul. We then cut to the back where the no unmasked Sin Cara Negro tells Striker that he's pissed that Azul took away his identity and something else in Spanish before walking off.

Daniel Bryan (Mr. Money in the Bank) beat Tyson Kidd via submission in a singles match: 3/10 or 1.5/5 Stars
Daniel Bryan, always amazing. Tyson Kidd, young stud rising. This could be epic. Or this could be a short match filled with great counters that is too short and I'll complain until they get a 10+ minute match. I want a grudge feud between these two. Make it happen WWE. End match  Bryan picks his way out of The Sharpshooter and slaps on the LaBell Lock and Kidd taps.

We get a video package of what we saw earlier replayed where Miz and Truth cost Cena the title and have been harassing him. Ending with Cena choosing The Rock to be his partner at Survivor Series.

Cole has a mic and he starts completely knocking JR. He has a bunch of photoshopped pictures of JR training. He says that the rules for the Michael Cole Challenge (or whatever it's called) will be explained Monday. And that of JR somehow wins Cole will quit.

Big Show comes out to the ring to address the world title situation. We get...pictures, fuck you WWE for still doing this, of Mark Henry and Big Show breaking the ring at Vengeance Sunday.. Big Show starts by saying "Oops I did it again." Big Show puts over the strength and tenacity of Mark Henry, making him hurt in places he didn't know he had. Big Show wants them to reinforce the ring and he wants a match number two for the title. He looked into Henry's eyes and he knows he can beat him. Teddy Long agrees and sometime in the future this rematch will happen. The World Heavyweight Champion, Mark Henry comes out. Both men look beat up, I like that. Henry says that it doesn't matter who he talks to, he's not getting another match. And that obviously he didn't do a good enough job beating him, that he should put his boot in his mouth right now. Big Show is ready to fight, but as Henry is getting into the ring pain hits him and he retreats. We go to commercial with Mark Henry holding the World Heavyweight Championship in the air.

CM Punk beat Christian via pinfall in a singles match: 6/10 or 3/5 Stars
No real build-up. Just two amazing wrestlers getting to talk earlier in the night and now having a main event match. Punk's going for the GTS when WWE Champion Alberto Del Rio's music hits and he walks out with Ricardo Rodriguez. Christian hits an impaler DDT for a long two as we go to commercial. End match Christian hits a powerslam counter of the spring board clothesline for a two. Christian goes for The Killswitch, Punk goes for the GTS, Christian goes for the The Killswitch, but takes the running knee and bulldog in the corner. Ricardo runs through the ring and Punk ends up hitting the springboard clothesline for a two. Punk sets up for the Macho Man elbow drop, but Del Rio knocks him off behind the refs back Sheamus' music hits and distracts Christian as he's about to spear Punk. Ricardo runs off as Punk takes advantage hitting the GTS on Christian for the pinfall.

Smackdown Rating: 7/10 or 3.5/5 Stars
Last Week: 7/10 or 3.5/5 Stars
I think this was another solid week for Smackdown. The promos CM Punk/Christian, Miz/Truth after their win and Mark Henry/Big Show were good. The matches were good as well. CM Punk and Christian was a nice end to the show and Randy Orton vs Dolph Ziggler was a great mid-match show as well. Barrett is looking good, as well as Bryan getting a win. I like those results. All in all, solid show, like last week. You don't have to hate yourself for watching Smackdown. Two good weeks in a row now.

That's it for The Smackdown Lowdown. As always suggest to me stuff you'd like me to write on. Also if you wanna add me on Facebook or follow me on Twitter, please do so. Really I don't mind.

Halloween Movie Month [Child's Play]

Ahhhh Child's Play, the movie that if you saw it as a kid it made you freaked out at dolls for awhile. Over the years this, at least the first film in this series, has gotten cult status. It follows the story of the Barclay family. It's Andy's birthday and he wants the newest toy, The Good Guy Doll. Of course he is disappointed when he doesn't get it. While at work though, his mother Karen get's taken outside my her friend Maggie to a homeless man who happens to have a doll. She get's a good deal on it and takes it home to the delight of Andy. Later that night Karen has to be back at work so Maggie is baby sitting. The night for her doesn't end so well and the events to come will terrify the police and the Barclay family in the near future. This is a solid flick, I think. It's a late 80s horror that takes notes from it's predecessors. The music is 80s-ey and it does it job. Also the acting, especially by Alex Vincent (Andy), is really good and I like we get to "know" the characters as the movie went. The scares are good, only a couple "make you jump spots". But the first time Chucky springs to life on camera, oh man that's a creepy fun moment. While there's a lot of gun fire and some stabbing, etc, there's not a whole ton of blood.  The humor in this is limited, but in there as well. The old people on the elevator with the doll near end of the movie, just haha. I really liked the fact they kept the mystery aspect throughout and even the voodoo and supernatural parts were explained too. This is a movie, I think, most people go into thinking it's not worth their time.  Give it a chance though, it's a good late-80s horror, not yet ruined by all it's sequels.

Halloween Movie Month [Insidious]

I'm pretty sure, before Paranormal Activity 3, this was the newest movie that I was watching this month. Coincidentally people that made Paranormal Activity also were involved in this. Also James Wan, the director/writer/producer throughout of my personal favorite horror series SAW, directed this. Insidious follows the Lambert family who have just moved into a new house. They are settling in when one night Dalton goes up to the attic to explore and is terrified of something. The next morning Dalton is found in an unexplained a coma. Three months later Dalton is moved back home and out of the ordinary events start happening. They move yet again, but the events still continue. What events are going on and what is going to happen to Dalton and the Lambert family in the end? I really liked this movie upon first viewing, and remember thinking there's some cool stuff going on. The music throughout is good and adds a darker dimension when it happens. Felt like watching an older horror movie with the loud ringing-like tones when scares hit. I love the lead parents in this too, in Rose Byrne and Patrick Wilson. Helps when horror flicks get people that we recognize, rather than no-names that get terrorized. I also like the was this movie combines traditional horror tactics like phantom people being seen and "make you jump" moments with supernatural things like hearing demons talk through devices and seances.  The filming of this, at least tone-wise is cool. There's really no vivid colors it's always a muddy color or a dark/grayish tone. Never a bright tone. Also the information and dialogue had me interested as well, especially when the "experts" came in and explained what they thought was wrong. I just like this movie and it's probably why I wrote so much this time haha. The plot is fresh, the acting and music are good, the last 30 minutes or so are great to me, and the scares are there. I believe this is worth the watch.

Halloween Movie Month [Drag Me To Hell]

Finally another Sami Raimi flick! Score. If you've kept up all month you know I love The Evil Dead. But this is after he got mega huge with the Spiderman trilogy (though he wrote it before them). It follows the story of Christine, a loan officer at a bank. She's trying to get a promotion, and when an older woman who can't pay her house loan comes in, she denies her. The old woman goes psycho and places a curse on Christine. Now her and her boyfriend Clay, who is skeptical about all this supernatural mumbo jumbo, try to find answers about what's really going on with Christine before it's too late. Now, I know a lot of people who think this is a laughable attempt at horror, but this is just Sam Raimi. The over the top gore (there some in this PG-13 flick), the humor, the supernatural  aspects, and the make you jump out of your seats moments. I actually like the acting in this, always wanted Justin Long to do good and this is one of the movies I like him in. Also Alison Lohman and Dileep Rao do a good job in this as well. To me most of the freaky stuff happens with the old bat who goes nuts and the end scene with the (small spoiler) seance. The humor, especially with Long is good, and that gives this points for me. The make you jump scares parts work well and the music accompanying it is good too. I've always liked this movie, and a couple of years ago when I first watched it I knew I liked it as a horror flick. Between Sam Raimi's plot, the acting, humor, scares, etc in the movie. I'll always recommend this to people, just one of them movies I really like.
